2nd and 3rd Sparks, 23rd Brownies and 34th Guides, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada We went to Pinewood Court to sing Christmas carols to the seniors and deliver some handmade ornaments to the residents. One of the many ways members of Guiding spread Christmas cheer and perform community service throughout the year! Submitted by Karen Watt, Brown Owl
Lisa Lacaria, Superior North OECTA — It is amazing to read about all the wonderful things people are doing. For the month of December I am going to collect all my spare change (as challenged by Mr. Smith in 2014) and donate it to a group of students who are going to Equador to make a difference in our world.
K. Pellegrini Our Lady of Hope Dear Grade 6 Classes of St.Elizabeth School:Thank you for sharing your inspiring story. It is exciting to see how far the challenge goes and how you can make a difference in the lives of others by your acts of mercy and kindness. At our school we have several traditions that we do each year to help our neighbours in need, including contributing to Christmas baskets, bringing in mittens for our mitten tree, and gift cards and necessities to bring joy to other families. We fill our foyer with the spirit of giving. Our Luke 4:18 Committee plan special events during this time and contribute to the Catholic charities in our area. Wishing you many blessings this Christmas.
Mark McCormick-OECTA Ottawa- Ottawa- Canada The Catholic Teachers Association in Ottawa (OECTA Ottawa) is buying, wrapping and packing Christmas presents and goodies for families who have been affected by labour action (on strike) over the past few months. With “Operation Christmas Cheer”, we are hoping to make Christmas a little brighter for parents and children in our community.
Claire Laughlin- OECTA Provincial- Toronto, Canada Peter and the Grade 5/6 class. You have inspired me to make a donation to the Chum/City Christmas Wish. It will give me joy at Christmas to know a child has a toy, they may not have had, if I had not donated. I was so inspired by your work. I will pass your challenge along.
Lakehead Express Soccer Club, Thunder Bay, Canada For the second year in a row the Lakehead Express Soccer Club will be participating in the Undercover Project, in which all of the teams collect new pairs of socks and underwear for children in our community. Last year the club was able to donate 1100 pairs of socks and underwear, and this year our goal is 1500. The club has a friendly competion between teams to entice them to donate, with the winning team recieving a pizza party. All items will be collected in mid December and presented to the Clothing Assistance Mission in time for Christmas. Lakehead Express Soccer Club would like to challenge all other childrens sports organizations to donate also.
